What is Traditional Stucco
Traditional stucco is a popular siding material made of Portland cement, sand, lime, and water. This mix of substances is applied over a mesh base. The result is a durable finish that is available in nearly any color imaginable.
In Fort Myers and Naples, stucco is much-loved for the unique aesthetic beauty it brings, while still providing a durable and long-lasting finish.

Repairs
Stucco is naturally durable and long-lasting. Thankfully, if repairs are needed, you have the team from Coastal Exteriors (stucco contractors Fort Myers FL residents trust) on your side to help.
Our Experts Ensure Your Stucco is Applied Perfectly for Superior Results
Over CMU block or other masonry application
- This is the most common and durable method of application
- Requires 5/8” thickness (1/2” brown coat & 1/8” texture)
- The texture is best when applied the same day it is filled
- A bonding agent is recommended for concrete or mortar that is less than 30 days old
Over sheathing such as plywood or DensGlass®
-
Requires two layers of moisture barrier such as synthetic house wrap, felt paper, or liquid application
-
Requires proper wire lath installation (nail pattern & overlap)
-
Expansion joints are installed between dissimilar materials such as plywood to concrete
-
Requires a three-step process for a 7/8” thickness total (3/8” scratch coat, 3/8” brown coat & 1/8” finish texture)

Update Your Existing Stucco Exterior
At Coastal Exteriors, we also work with property owners who wish to update an existing stucco finish. This process starts with a thorough power wash of the paint, installation of new corner bead for crisp, straight corners. Then, we apply a masonry bonding agent, skim 3/8” brown coat, and 1/8” finish texture.
The result is stucco that truly looks “as good as new”.
Repair Damaged Stucco
for a Durable Finish

Repairs over CMU block or other masonry surfaces require that we remove all loose stucco, apply a masonry bonding agent, and finally applying stucco and textured feathering around the patch. Our residential stucco repair service gets your stucco looking its best once again.

Repairs over sheathing require we remove all damaged and or rusted wire lath, install a new moisture barrier, properly install wire lath to overlap existing stucco, and then follow up with scratching, browning, and texture.

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!
How long do I wait to paint stucco?
What paint is best for stucco?
Can I update my current texture?
My stucco is cracking, do I need to replace it?
Can water penetrate stucco?
Yes. Stucco itself is not a waterproof material. We have seen water intrusion occur in the smallest hairline cracks, which has severely degraded paint. These can lead to the homeowner requiring Fort Myers stucco repair to get their house back to normal.
What brand stucco is best?
Most stucco available today is on par with others due to strict building standards. Some brands do have modifiers in them to help with adhesion and crack resistance. Our suggestion is to speak with a local Naples stucco professional to see what options are best for you.
Can you replicate lap siding with stucco?
Today, stucco is an extremely versatile product that can be applied over many substrates and made to replicate many popular sidings from lap to board & batten to stone.
Can stucco be applied on horizontal surfaces?
Stucco can be applied on a horizontal surface, but that surface must be pitched. If water stands on stucco for an extended period, it will begin to delaminate.
How long does stucco last?
Stucco has been around for centuries in one way or another. Stucco will last just as long as minimal upkeep and maintenance are performed.
How can I tell if my stucco was installed correctly?
The best way to see if your stucco was appropriately installed is to hire a professional to do an invasive inspection. Then, you’ll learn if there are any flaws or issues that require attention.
Can I install stucco myself?
We do not recommend someone who does not have experience working with masonry to attempt to install stucco. We have seen many errors from adhesion failure to terrible textures. Additionally, a professional installer will get you long-lasting results.
