Traditional Stucco

One of the oldest building materials, stucco is a form of masonry made from Portland cement, finely ground limestone, sand, and water that's been blended together. Once it dries, the stucco is extremely hard and durable. Stucco offers a durable, seamless, and low-maintenance home exterior option. A popular choice for Southwest Florida homeowners.

Application Process

Our stucco experts ensure your stucco is applied perfectly on all types of stucco systems

  • Stucco installed over CMU block or other types of masonry
  • This is the most common and durable method of application.
    Requires 5/8” thickness (1/2” brown coat & 1/8” texture).
The texture is best when applied the same day it is filled.
A bonding agent is recommended for concrete or mortar that is less than 30 days old.
  • Stucco installed over sheathing such as plywood or DensGlass®
  • Requires two layers of moisture barrier such as synthetic house wrap, felt paper, or liquid application.
Requires proper wire lath installation (nail pattern & overlap).
Expansion joints are installed between dissimilar materials such as plywood to concrete.
    Requires a three-step process for a 7/8” thickness total (3/8” scratch coat, 3/8” brown coat & 1/8” finish texture).

Update Your Existing Stucco Exterior

At Coastal Exteriors, we also work with property owners who wish to update an existing stucco finish. This process starts with a thorough power wash of the paint, installation of new corner bead for crisp, straight corners. Then, we apply a masonry bonding agent, skim 3/8” brown coat, and 1/8” finish texture. The result is stucco that truly looks “good as new”.

Repair Process

Repair damaged stucco for a beautiful finish

Over Masonry Stucco Repair

Repairs over CMU block or other masonry surfaces require that we remove all loose stucco, apply a masonry bonding agent, and finally applying stucco and textured feathering around the patch. Our residential stucco repair service gets your stucco looking its best once again.

Over Sheathing Stucco Repair

Repairs over sheathing require we remove all damaged and or rusted wire lath, install a new moisture barrier, properly install wire lath to overlap existing stucco, and then follow up with scratching, browning, and texture.

FAQ

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!

Depending on the stucco product used and the paint product you choose, you may need to wait anywhere from a couple of days to around 30 days. With most stucco, the cure time is approximately 30 days, based on the ph level. If you’re in a hurry, there are products on the market specifically for stucco that is curing, also referred to as “hot stucco.”

This is a question that inspires much debate. Many manufacturers will promote their product as being the best. In Southwest Florida, our favorite is Loxon XP, sold by Sherwin Williams. This paint has waterproofing features that prevent water intrusion that causes delamination. Stucco will last many years as long as you paint when needed, regardless of the paint that you may choose.

Updating textures is one of our favorite remodeling techniques. Giving an outdated surface, a facelift adds valuable curb appeal that many buyers are searching for. However, it is important to thoroughly inspect underlying conditions and remove loose paint, delaminated stucco, and cut out any heavy rust before beginning the job.

Unfortunately, cracking stucco occurs due to poor workmanship, not being maintained, settling, or foundation issues. In most cases, it can be repaired, but there are occasions where poor workmanship (such as too much sand in the mixture) requires it to be completely removed. Connect with us for more information about Naples stucco repair and see how we can help.

Yes. Stucco itself is not a waterproof material. We have seen water intrusion occur in the smallest hairline cracks, which has severely degraded paint. These can lead to the homeowner requiring Fort Myers stucco repair to get their house back to normal.

Most stucco available today is on par with others due to strict building standards. Some brands do have modifiers in them to help with adhesion and crack resistance. Our suggestion is to speak with a local Naples stucco professional to see what options are best for you.

Today, stucco is an extremely versatile product that can be applied over many substrates and made to replicate many popular sidings from lap to board & batten to stone.

Stucco can be applied on a horizontal surface, but that surface must be pitched. If water stands on stucco for an extended period, it will begin to delaminate.

Stucco has been around for centuries in one way or another. Stucco will last just as long as minimal upkeep and maintenance are performed.

The best way to see if your stucco was appropriately installed is to hire a professional to do an invasive inspection. Then, you’ll learn if there are any flaws or issues that require attention.

We do not recommend someone who does not have experience working with masonry to attempt to install stucco. We have seen many errors from adhesion failure to terrible textures. Additionally, a professional installer will get you long-lasting results.

If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to contact us, we’re your local residential and commercial construction experts.
